Sawadee....Bangkok anyone??

Last weekend, Paul ans I decided to go Christmas shopping in Bangkok, we arrived late Saturday afternoon, after arriving at our hotel it was already dark so we thought we would take in the lights of Bangkok. It was an amazing sight especially down by the King's Palace, Bangkok must certainly have the most number of Christmas lights in the world!

There are so many different colour taxi's in Bangkok, that it really makes the city very cheerful and bright. These pictures were taken at the Chatachuk weekend market which was an amazing adventure. A definate must see and experience.






This market is so huge you need a map to guide you around. Make no mistake though, you might not enjoy it if you don't like crowds, its pretty busy

Cabbages and Condoms

We went to a fantastic Thai restaurant called Cabbages and Condoms, funny name but a very interesting place. The food was terrific, authentic thai, very hot , careful what you order. As you walk in you see many interesting things all made out of condoms, including a Christmas tree, a sofa a t shirt, its to funny for words. The whole aim of the restaurant is to promote safe sex (obviously) and of course when you ask for the bill, instead of getting mints, there are condoms inside the bill folder, and no they are not mint flavoured condoms, that would be funny though wouldn't it!!

What about a trip to London

I decided that the wedding dress I liked was in London, so had to plan a quick trip to go buy it ( yes I know what you thinking, buying a dress in London? pounds?? is she nuts?? yes a little crazy, but I've had my heart set on this dress for awhile)
So thankfully my friend Tanya said she would love to go with me, I was very glad as you definately need a second opinion when buying this once in a lifetime piece of clothing.




The weather was a bit of a shock, we both had to dig out our winter woolies, however London really heats their underground and shops up so much, that once inside you are boiling.

We had a great time sightseeing, we hopped on "The BIG BUS Company" and for 20 pounds, we could hop on and off for 48hours and enjoy a river cruise down the Thames. Only problem was I lost our tickets at around hour 30, they blew away oops ( we sat upstairs in, open air bus) sorry monkey! )-:

By the way the trip was short and sweet, but thank goodness my stress is over as I got what I went for ( thanks Dad)

Where's Larry

Cats definately have a way of letting you know that either you are not packing this bag, or that they are coming with you!!!





Sometimes we have trouble finding Larry, either he has done a Michael Scofield (prison break) on us and jumped the fence, or as you can see found the most strange place to sleep!

Bug Alert

Just incase you thought I had taken the last pictures of crazy bugs in HK, this guy rocked up to be photographed. Apparently they taste pretty good fried with oyster sauce..... groce !!!

Good Hope School

At the moment, thanks to my wonderful neighbour Linda, I am able to work at Good Hope School, both Linda and I share the job of being the Principal's secretary. Good Hope is a high school, here they call it a secondary school. There are 1400 students and over 100 teachers. It's a chinese school, however all classes are taught in english. These pictures are from the School's Open Day celebrations. Each and every student is talented in some way, some of them sing, some play an instrament, others excell at sport and some like to dance the traditional lion dance. When kids apply to schools in Hong Kong, especially a school like good Hope, which is one of the best, they have to send in a CV, imagine writing a CV at the age of 10. Some of the CV's that I have seen have blown me away, like Grade 8 piano at age 12!!! Parents in Hong Kong push their kids very hard, education is everything here. One thing that is sad about most schools' is that they lack open space, when we were at school, we played sport on a field, had breaks out on the grass under trees. There is no grass at these schools', just concrete. So education may be everything but at what price?

South Africa Oct 06

Going home is crazy as all you expats know, its see him, see her, go here, go there, rush, rush, rush. However the two most important things I went home for was my Mom's 60th (those of you who know my Mom, also know that she does not look her age at all, well done Mom, age is just a number anyway. The second most important thing that happened was the birth of my best friend Shazi and her husband's Rodney's beautiful baby boy Keegan Neil Johnstone. Congratulations to to both of you.


I had a fabulous dinner with my two vey best friends, Bronwyn and Shazi, where I asked them both if they would do me the honour of being my bridesmaids. They are truly two very special human beings, who have both stood by me through thick and thin, I can't imagine what it would be like to not have them in my life. You gals are terrific!!! Love Ja
