Hong Kong's best kept Secret

Tai Long Wan Beach

A beautiful beach with crystal blue water and white sand???? In Hong Kong???
Yes there is such a place, a bit of a walk but all worthwhile when you arrive at this amazing beach and swim in blue blue water. Rachael, Mike, Natalie, Mike, Paul and I went last week Monday to Tai Long Wan, and really enjoyed ourselves. To get there is very simple, first get to Saikung then jump on Bus No.94 from the main bus terminal and head for Wong Shek Pier (the last stop), once there you can either take a ferry for $12 (there are 2 ferries so ask if you are on the right one, that would be the one that goes to Chek Keng) or jump in a speed boat (usually operated by crazy Granny's) P.S. they go like hell, $20 dollars a person, they will drop you off at Chek Keng. There you will see a paved pathway and follow it all the way up the hill, yes pretty tough on a hot and humid day. But where there's an up, there's a down, so downhill is great, you will pass a little restaurant for refreshments however its best to pack a picnic, thanks to Rachael we were all well fed. After the shop stop follow the signs for Tai Long Wan beach, there is also a pathway to Ham Tin Beach where there is another restaurant just in case you forgot your picnic basket. Once at the beach there is the reward of swimming in fabulous clean water in HK, but there is no shade, so be sure to bring sunblock, (Paul fell victim to the sun's harsh rays that day, he certainly let his portugese brothers down considering they are supposed to have olive skins , he burnt red as a tomatoe) After a couple of hours on the beach you can take a stroll over to HamTin Beach or head back, but its uphill again, and so you SWEAT, all in all its about a 45min walk , worth making a day of it. You can pick up a speed boat to get you back to Wong Shek Pier and then jump on the 94 to head back to Saikung. A Must to put on your Hong Kong "To Do List"
