Trip to Lombok, Indonesia

Lombok is a small Island 20mins by air from Bali. Years before the Bali bombings it must have been bustling with tourists but unfortunately the tourists have bearly returned back to Bali so poor Lombok has been forgotten. When I arrived there I felt I had stepped back in time as horse drawn carts were the main means of transport. The poor horses were not in good condition at all and they had to share the road with motorbikes and cars hooting at them. Being an animal lover I couldn't stand to see them in the state they were and it was a good thing I didn't stay longer as all I wanted to do was to rescue all of them.

There is no income anymore for the locals as the tourists have desserted them and therefore its a very poor place. However I was lucky to stay in a nice hotel on the beach. Its a volcanic island and because of this the beach sand is black. You can swim in the sea but you have to wear shoes as the coral cuts your feet. So I skipped that part as those shoes are just so unflattering. (-:

I went with one of the pilot's to the famous Gili Islands. We had to take an old Lombok traditional fishing boat to get there, but we made it. When we arrived I was surprised at how many foreigners there were, mostly students. I thought they were all there because in the travel books Gili is famous for its great diving and snorkeling. But then as I walked around I understood why. Check out the menu board photo that I took at one of the bars, and no I don't think those mushrooms come with garlic ha ha!
